“Laws of migration” distinct demographic patterns related to migration changing social, economic, and political roles for females.

Law 1: women more likely move internally within a country and males move more internationally.
Law 2: most migrants are young adults and seeking employment
Law 3: people only move as far as they must, most migrants only move short distances.
Law 4: when migrants move large distances they typically do so in steps “step migrations”
Law 5: migration flow in one direction would produce a counter flow in the opposite direction.
Law 6: rural areas to urban areas for economic reasons
Law 7: migrants who move long distances will go to large urban areas
