Unit 2 Flashcards
x-axis
the horizontal axis
y-axis
the vertical axis
origin
the point (0,0) on a coordinate grid
ordered pair/coordinates
a way to describe a point on a graph (x,y)
quadrants
the four sections of a coordinate graph: I - (+, +) II - (-, +) III - (-, -) IV - (+, -)
variable
a letter than stands for a number
linear
a graph with a constant rate of change (makes a line)
slope/rate of change
the amount y increases/decreases as x increases by 1 (the change in the table and graph)
constant/y-intercept
the starting amount when x=0; where the graph crosses the y-axis.
x-intercept
where y=0; where the graph crosses the x-axis
point of intersection
where two graphs cross one another
positive correlation
as x increases, y increases (graph goes up to the right)
negative correlation
as x increases, y decreases (graph goes down to the right)
order of operations
1) parentheses
2) exponents
3) multiplication and division (left to right)
4) addition and subtraction (left to right)
