Population growth
An increase in the number of individuals of a given species in a particular location over a period of time
Ecological succession
The process by which the mixture of species in a particular location changes over time
Habitat
The place were an individual organism or population lives
Biome
A large collection of animals and plants that occupy a particular geographical location
Ecosystem
A collection of living organisms interacting with the physical environment within a particular geographical location
Epiphyte
A plant that grows on another plant in a commensal relationship
Grasses
Short plants that have hollow stems with narrow, blade-shaped leaves and small flowers that are pollinated by wind
Permafrost
A layer of soil about 25-100 cm below the surface that is permanently frozen
Estuary
A body of water where freshwater from rivers or streams mixes with saltwater from the ocean
Salinity
The amount of salt dissolved in a body of water
Bioluminescence
The emission of light by an organism
