unit 10 Flashcards
Rna primase
polymerizes (to create a polymer) RNA primer in 5’ to 3’ direction, with replication bubble
What gets the dna replication started
Dna polymerase III
synthesizes/creates new dna single strand by adding dna nucleotides using template strand
Dna polymerase I
replace rna primer with new dna, polymerized in 5’ to 3’ direction; on lagging strand
helicase
unwinds the double helix of dna into two separate, single strands
rna primer
made of rna nucleotides, necessary for dna polymerase 3 to latch on to and begin to do its job
cancer
uncontrolled cell growth
checkpoints
times during the cell cycle cycle where the cell pauses and checks on certain things (size, synthesis of DNA molecules)
tumor
large conjunction of highly dense cells
metastasis
when cancer cells spread
why is mestasis bad?
a tumor could develop because of the excess of cells. Mestasis could also result in the death of healthy cells due to the lack of space for them
