What is the sociological imagination?
A framework used to consider social issues in a non-biased way by forcing us away from taking our own way of life for granted as “normal”.
What is the purpose of the sociological imagination?
The sociological imagination was developed by C. Wright Mills in order to find the link between personal problems faced by individuals and these same problems faced by larger groups in society.
What is meant by ‘relative concepts’?
Relative concepts are ideas that aren’t concrete but instead changeable; in that it can change over time (generations) or place (culture).
What is meant by cultural relativity?
To consider one society in the same way that we would consider any other society, with no one society considered ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than another - just ‘different’, is to be ‘culturally relative’.
