original Constitution but was very weak as it didn’t give enough power to the national gov
Commerce Clause
Congress has power to regulate interstate commerce
Supremacy Clause
federal laws rule over other government laws
Elastic Clause
allows Congress to make all decisions that are necessary and proper which is implied
Cooperative Federalism
federal and state governments share responsibilities
Dual Federalism
federal and state governments do not overlap
Exclusive Powers
powers given to state governments only
Concurrent Powers
powers given to both federal and state governments (taxes, banks)
Federalism
system with divide between national and state governments
