brachial plexus lower trunk originates from
C8, T1 roots
brachial plexus middle trunk originates from
C7 root
brachial plexus upper trunk originates from
C5, C6 roots
C7, C8, T1 → middle and lower trunk → medial cord → ulnar nerve → [muscles]
intrinsic hand muscles
C7, C8, T1 → middle and lower trunk → medial cord → ulnar nerve → FCU, FDP 4,5, lumbricals 3,4, interossei (3 PADs and 4 DABs), ADM, FDI
FDP 4,5 have C7 middle trunk contribution; others lower trunk C8, T1
radial n. innervates
muscles: triceps, anconeus, brachioradialis, ECRL/ECRB
sensory: posterior arm, posterior forearm, thumb, snuffbox
PIN is a branch of the radial n. that is pure motor (like AIN of median) → ECU, EIP, ED
superficial radial neuropathy - Px, NCS/EMG
pure sensory → posterior forearm and dorsal hand
usually hx tight handcuffs or IV
Axillary n inn’s →
deltoid (abduction), teres minor (external rotation), skin over deltoid
