Action verb
Refers to physical actions that are performed with bodies or objects
(E.g run)
Stative verb
Describes things like qualities, states of existence, opinions, beliefs, and emotions
(E.g love,want,own)
Transitive verb
A verb that is accompanied by a direct object in a sentence
(Before the noun)
Intransitive Verb
A verb that is not used with a direct object
(E.g airplanes fly)
Linking verb
Stative verbs that link a subject with a subject complement
(E.g be,become,seem)
Auxillary/Helping verb
Works with other verbs to change the meaning of a sentence
(E.g be,have)
Modal verbs
Subgroup of helping verbs that are used to give a sentence a specific mood can express concepts such as ability, necessity, possibility, or permission
(E.g can,may,might)
Regular verb
past tense form and past participle ends in -ed, -d, or the verb is a -t variant verb
Irregular verb
Past tense and past participle form doesn’t end in -ed, -d, and doesn’t use the –t variant
(E.g knew)
Phrasal verb
Combinations of a verb with prepositions and/or adverbs that have a different meaning from the individual words used to form them
Infinitive verb
The base form of the verb
(E.g to play,to see,to fight)
