types of shock Flashcards
hypovolemic shock
decreased intravascular volume
risk factors external (hypovolemia)
trauma, surgery, vomiting, diarrhea, diuresis, DKA, diabetes insipidus
risk factor internal (hypovolemia)
hemorrhage, burns, ascites, peritonitis, dehydration, necrotizing pancreatitis
cardiogenetic shock
occurs when the hearts ability to contract and to pump blood is impaired, supply of oxygen is inadequate for the heart and the tissues
medical management (cardiogenic)
fluid replacement, vasodilators, inotropic and vasopressors
distributive shock
when intravascular volume pools in peripheral blood vessels
systemic inflammatory response syndrome
a systemic wide response secondary to a clinical insult that causes a systemic inflammatory response
criteria for SIRS; two or more
temp 38 or less than 36, HR above 90, RR greater than 20 or PaCO2 less than 32, WBC greater than 12,000 or less than 4,000
sepsis
life-threatening multiorgan dysfunction caused by the dysregulated host response to infection
septic shock
widespread infection; endgame of sepsis
