all about types of network
What is a network
A network, in the context of computing and telecommunications, is a collection of interconnected devices that communicate with each other to share resources, exchange data, and provide services.
Local Area Network (LAN)
Scope: Covers a small geographic area, such as a single building or a campus.
Usage: Connecting computers, printers, and other devices within a single organization.
Example: Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks within an office.
Characteristics:
High data transfer rates.
Typically privately owned and managed.
Used for sharing resources and information within an organization
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
Scope: Covers a city or a large campus.
Usage: Connecting multiple LANs within a metropolitan area.
Example: Cable TV networks, city-wide Wi-Fi networks.
Characteristics:
Medium range.
Often managed by a single entity (like a city government or a large corporation)
Wide Area Network (WAN)
cope: Covers a large geographic area, such as a country or continent.
Usage: Connecting multiple LANs and MANs across long distances.
Example: The Internet, corporate networks spanning multiple locations.
Characteristics:
Lower data transfer rates compared to LANs and MANs.
Typically involves leased telecommunication lines.
Used for long-distance communication and resource sharing.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Scope: Provides secure connectivity over a public network.
Usage: Secure remote access to a private network.
Example: Corporate VPNs for employees to access company resources remotely.
Characteristics:
Uses encryption to secure data.
Extends a private network across a public network.
Commonly used for secure communications over the Internet.
