Types of Data Flashcards
Discrete unordered data, no ranking among groups
Examples: Gender, lived/died/ cured/not cured, diagnosis, smoker/nonsmoker, race
Nominal data
Discrete data that ranked in a specific order, responses on a continuum, but no consistent level of magnitude between ranks. Order of numbers is meaningful, though.
Example NYHA heart failure classes, questionnaire scores, pain intensity
Ordinal data
Continuous data when there is a consistent level of magnitude between data units, vbut the zero point is arbitrary
ie Farenheight scale
Interval data
Continuous data when there is an absolute zero
examples: heart rates, blood pressures, distances
Ratio data
One type of quantitative data where the measures are mutually exclusive
Discrete data
Quantitative data that allows decimals
Continuous data
