Type II Hypersensitivity Flashcards
Type II Hypersensitivity reactions are mediated by what Ig’s?
IgG and IgM
What are Type II hypersentitivities also known as -?
Antibody-dependent cytotoxicity, or Cytotoxic hypersensitivity
What species is associated with having natural antibodies against other blood groups?
Cats, or felids
What blood system is associated with cats? What are the majority of cats blood type?
AB
A
Exotic and purebred cats are more exclusively associated with a ____% frequency of Blood Type B, compared to the majority of othe cat species.
25 - 50%
What species has the most complex blood group?
Bovine
Explain HDN Neonatal Isoerythrolysis, or Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn Neonatal Isoerythrolysis.
- Fetal development = fetal hemorraghing
- Fetal RBC’s enter mom’s circulation, recognized as non-self and eliminated
- Leads to Ab production
- Fetal RBC’s enter mom’s circulation, recognized as non-self and eliminated
- Following partuition, foal received colostrum with mom’s Ab’s
- Mom’s Ab’s enter foal’s circulation, and lead to completement activation/ phagocytosis of foal’s RBC’s that are recognized as non-self
What equid blood group will have a quicker onset of HDN NI? Slower onset?
Faster: Aa, or EAA
Slower: Qa, or EAQ
Explain Bovine Neonatal Pancytopenia.
- BVD vaccinations were made from bovine kideny cells, including the MHC molecule associated with its viral antigen presentation
- The dam receives this vaccination, and is fine
- Mating with a sire leads to a calf
- While the dam has Ab’s against the BVD virus and MHC molecule, the sire’s genetic input (50% of genome) may be produce similar MHC’s to that of the BVD vaccine
- Immune mediated destruction of the calf’s cells may occur as a result of their own MHC similarity to the MHC of the BVD vaccine (pancytopenia)
- Ab’s are recevied through the colostrum and used for destruction
What cells are targeted in calves with Bovine Neonatal Pancytopenia?
Bone marrow stem cells and Luekocytes
