Q

what are the four triggers of tropical storms?

A

-water over 26.5°C
-summer and autumn (when sea temperatures are high)
-latitudes greater than 5°N or S (any closer there isn’t sufficient spin for the rotation of the earth)
-low pressure tropical areas

Q

how do tropical storms form?

A
  1. the sun sends solar radiation to earth which warms the oceans
  2. the oceans warm to a crucial 26.5°C
  3. this causes warm air to rise which creates low pressure
  4. air cools as it rises which creates clouds and rain
  5. some cooled air sinks back, creating the eye of the storm
  6. air rushes in from higher pressure areas to lower pressure areas creating winds
  7. the whole storm rotates because of the earths spin
