What is the law ?
The law is a body of rules imposed by a state on it’s people to regulate human conduct
Tort law ?
- A civil wrong
- Covers a wide range of wrongs committed by one person against another eg. car accidents , defective products
Main people in tort cases:
Plaintiff: The wronged party who takes a case in civil law (accuser)
Defendant: The person who defends the claim
Solution for tort law ?
Damages = Compensation
what does tort law deal with ?
The enforcement of private or public rights
What is civil law ?
Relates to duties owed by people to each other eg. family law (divorce, property law, contract related)
What is criminal law ?
Wrongful actions against society eg. theft, fraud, sexual offences
What is the purpose of tort law?
Not to punish but to compensate
