Topic 4B Flashcards
Which type of matter is arranged into an H shape pattern?
Grey Matter
What three nerves are most important ?
Spinal, Sciatic, Cranial
What are the 4 nerve plexuses in the body?
- Cervical plexus
- Brachial plexus
- Lumbar plexus
- Sacral plexus
What is a spinal nerve?
Spinal or nerve root is a name given to packages of neurons as they travel in the region of the intervertebral foramen.
What is sciatic nerve?
where motor neurons originate in the spinal cord to certain muscles of leg
What is the purpose of sensory neurons of the leg?
It carries information from the back of the leg toward the spinalcord
What are cranial nerves?
Are motor neurons from the brain and travel to head/face muscles.
What is the purpose of sensory neurons in the head
it carries info from various head and neck regions toward the brain.
How are nerve roots named for the cervical?
The nerve root is named after the bone below it (the nerve root above c1 is called the c1 nerve root)
How is the name of nerve roots of the thoracic different?
The nerve root below the bone is named after it because of the extra nerve root of the C8 (the nerve root below t1 is called the t1 nerve root)
Where are motor neurons coming from?
They are coming from the opposite side of the brain
Where are sensory neurons coming from?
They are coming from neurons of the skin
Where is the cervical plexus extend to?
posterior head and neck
Where is the brachial plexus extend to?
arm
Where is the lumbar plexus extend to?
pelvic and anterior leg
