Topic 3 - Project Planning and Scheduling Flashcards
WBS (work breakdown structure) is?
the process of subdividing project deliverables and project work into smaller, more manageable components
What is a work package? where is it located in the WBS?
Work package is planned work (can be scheduled, cost estimated, monitored, controlled)
-lowest level WBS components
Benefits or bar/grantt charts
Primary use?
- simple
- represent progress
- commonly used for scheduling crews and equipment
Linear schedules?
advantages?
- used to schedule repetitive activities
- good for managing resources (e.g location)
- capable of identifying space and resource conflicts
Purpose of project scheduling?
(1) define activities, durations, and relationship logic to implement the project plan
(2) monitor, update, and communicate the schedule to reflect current status and impact of project changes
Defenition of TF / FF
TF (amount of time you can delay an activity without delaying the project)
=LF - EF
FF - amount of time you can delay an activity without delaying any following activities
FF = minimum(ESj) - EFi -LAG
j is any following activity
When do u take minimum values/maximum values in critical path method?
max values for ES, EF
min values for LS, LF (backwards)
Time scaled logic diagram
- blend of what?
- advantage over bar chart?
- blend of precedence network and gantt chart
- advantage is their inclusion of activity relations
Milestone?
points in time that have been identified as being important intermediate reference points during project delivery.
