Topic 2:Mechanics Flashcards
What is projectile motion
What are the 4 equations of motion
V=u+at
V^2=U^2+2as
S=(U+V)/2T
S=ut+1/2at
What is the equation for a moment
Moment=FX
what is the equation for momentum
P=MV
what is a moment
The Turning Effect of a force
what is newtons first law
what is newtons second law
what is newtons third law
what is terminal velocity
when the force of friction Equals the driving force of an object
Explain terminal velocity on a Sky diver as he leaves the plane and travels to the ground. .
1) As the diver begins to fall it will accelerate gradually increasing in air resistance until it equals the objects weight.
2)The object is now Travelling at terminal velocity
3)Before reaching the ground the diver will open his parachute which increases its air resistance to be greater than its weight.
4)This slows the diver down until his speed has dropped enough for air resistance to equal weight again reaching a second slower terminal velocity
5)This new terminal velocity is small enough for him to land safely .
Define momentum
momentum is the product of mass and velocity
What will happen if the moments on an object are not balanced
the object will turn
what happens if the centre of mass of an object is not on the pivot
the object will rotate
what happens if the centre of mass of an object is not on the pivot
The object is at Equilibrium and will be balanced
Define Friction
A force that Opposes Motion
