Tools of Geometry: Definitions Flashcards
Point
A location in space given by a set of coordinates. A point has no size.
Line
A straight path of points that extends in opposite directions without end. A line has length but no width or depth
Plane
A flat surface that extends without end. A plane has area but no thickness
Line Segment
The portion of a line between two points.
Angle
An angle is formed by two rays with the same starting point. Rays are the sides of the angle. The starting point is the vertex of the angle.
Congruent Segments
Congruent segments have the same length
Congruent Angles
Congruent angles have the same measure
Congruent polygons
Congruent polygons have congruent sides and congruent angles
Angle Bisector
A ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles
Perpendicular Bisector
A line that divides a line segment into two congruent segments and crosses at a right angle.
