Tissues Flashcards
What are the 4 forms of tissues?
Solid (bone), semi-solid (fat), soft (muscles, ligaments), liquid (blood)
What are the 4 types of tissues?
Epithelial, connective, muscular, nervous
What are most body tissues derived from?
Mesenchyme
What are the 3 embryonic (germ) layers?
Endoderm (innermost), mesoderm and ectoderm (outermost)
What is the nervous system and skin derived from?
Ectoderm
What does endoderm form?
Everything that is hollow
What is epithelial tissue mostly derived from?
Endoderm
What are the 4 functions of epithelial tissue?
Protection (epidermis), filtration (nutrient absorption), secretion (mucous, hormones, enzymes), excretion (waste products, co2, urine)
Where do you find surface and glandular epithelium?
Surface is for lining the insider or covering the outside. Glandular makes up secretory tissue in glands
T or F surface and glandular epithelial cells have closely packed cells with hardly any extra cellular materials between them
True
What is the basement membrane?
A non cellular layer that hold the epithelial to the underlying connective tissue
Is epithelium vascular or avascular?
Avascular
What is the difference between apical and basal surface epithelium?
Apical faces the body cavity (hollow space) and basal is attached to the basement membrane
What are the two layers of the basement membrane?
Basal lamina and reticular lamina
What attached the basal lamina to the membrane?
Laminin
