He believed in functionalism and the scientific method; saw society as a set of independent parts that maintain a system but each separate part has a function.

He believed that society has no classes, and every person within the society works for the common good, and class struggle is theoretically gone.

He believed that societies had certain functional requirements which needs to be met in order for society to survive. Just like humans need things to survive, so every society has to have certain things in order to function properly.

school performs a triage categorising pupils to those who will achieve anyway and don’t require much input, however hopeless cases who would be a waste of effort anyway require attention and input to get them a 5 at GCSR.

Childhood is ‘disappearing at a dazzling speed’. As supporting evidence he looked at the trend towards giving children the same rights as adults, the growing similarity of adult and children’s clothing and even cases of children committing ‘adult crimes’ (murder, rape).
