what is a nuclear family?
a family where parents live with their children and no other relatives in the household or local area
what is an extended family?
where several generations of the same family live together, either in the same house or the same neighbourhood
positives of a nuclear family
- the parents are in a secure relationship to support the family
- it is more private than living with your extended family
- less expensive
negatives of a nuclear family
- you don’t learn from your extended family (they are not there to teach you life lessons)
- you may not have a close bond to the rest of your family
Christian nature and role of the family
- Christians lived in extended families in Biblical times to pass their faith down generations
- there are examples of polygamy in the Bible but Christians believe ideal marriage is between one man and one woman
- same-sex marriage is frowned upon by traditional Christians because it is ideal for children to grow up with a male and female role model
- it is important to respect your parents

Muslim nature and role of the family
- in the past Muslims often lived in extended families
- Islam allows men to have more than one wife (polygamy) but only with the consent of the first wife, and he must treat all wives equally
- traditionally, the men work and women work in the home and raise the children
- Muslim parents are expected to raise their children to become good Muslims - children go to a Madrasah (mosque school) to learn how to read the Qur’an
- same-sex marriages are not permitted as they believe the beliefs of Islam condemn their relationship
how is a Christian family presented in the bible?
- the family is where children are raised to believe in God
- God started family in the book of Genesis
- all Christian churches teach that the family is an important part of society
- the family is the most secure place to have children
- they follow the example of the life of Jesus, who was raised in a family
- the Bible shows that parents and children have specific roles to care for each other
- the family is where children learn their morals; the difference between right and wrong

- family is at the heart of the community

2023: less difference between roles of men and women, women have way more right than before, but still typically male and female jobs
how much do some people say women earn less than men?
as much as 25% less
why do women earn less than men?
- women are more likely to be victims of crime particularly for domestic violence and rape
- women do better in all levels of education, yet less choose to go to university
- women are more likely to stay at home and not follow a career
- there are few women in the higher positions of business or politics, so women have less power in the world
- women are more likely to be viewed as sex objects rather than individuals
- women sports stars and actresses are paid less
what other issues do women face in career?
- women have to take time off from their jobs to take care of their children - leads to demotion of their career
- jobs men do have higher salaries than women’s jobs (typically)
- men don’t have to take time off for their children so they can thrive in their career, however women do

- Rubiales kissed Spanish player on the mouth after Women’s World Cup without her consent
- Russel Brand accused of rape, SA and misogyny
