The Trunk Flashcards
Four motions of the trunk
Anterior flexion, posterior extension, lateral flexion, lateral rotation
(swayback) the shape of the spine in the lower back and neck.
Lordosis
The spinal column consists of vertebrae and houses the…
Spinal cord (part of the nervous system)
The vertebrae contain spinous processes that are short and pointed posteriorly and the bodies of the vertebrae are large and shaped like lima beans
Lumbar vertebrae
is the only vertebra containing the dens. The transverse processes project from the lateral masses.
The axis
contain foramen in the transverse processes. The bodies are smaller than the other two sections of the spine.
Cervical Vertebrae
the lamina are flat, hight and wider than other vertebrae. The spinous processes are elongated, laterally compressed and pointed inferiorly. This prevents severe hyperextension.
Thoracic Vertebrae
the only vertebra that does not have a spinous process or a body. It is essentially a ring with anterior and posterior arches. The transverse processes project from the lateral masses.
