What is an adverb?

A

Modifies a verb indicating why, where, when, and how an action is performed

ex: she writes well

What is an adverbial clause?

A

They have the same function as adverbs but they have a subject, and predicate, and are introduced by conjunctions or conjunctive phrases

ex: Te ayudaré cuando (tú) me necesites - I’ll help you when you need me

When they express purpose

ex: el arquelogo habló a los saqueadores de modo que dejaron de excavar ilegalmente

The archaeologist talked to the looters, and because of that, they stopped excavating illegally

What does aunque take the subjunctive?

A
  1. When it refers to an unaccomplished act or hypothesis
  2. When it indicates that the speaker does not believe the statement to be a fact

ex: Aunque me lo juraran, no lo creería
