The Small Intestine And Alveoli Flashcards
What is the small intestines job?
To absorb most of the nutrients from what we eat and drink.
What is a way that the small intestine is adapted?
It’s inside wall is thin which helps allow absorption happen quickly and efficiently.
What is another way that the small intestine is adapted?
Another way it is adapted for its function is that it has villi which help speed up diffusion as they increase the surface area of the small intestine.
What are the alveoli?
Alveoli are tiny sacs in our lungs that help/allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and bloodstream.
What is the alveoli’s structure specialised for?
Efficient gas exchange.
What is a way that the alveoli is adapted?
The walls of the air sacs are very thin so that gases can diffuse through them very quickly.
What is another way that the alveoli is adapted?
The air sacs(alveoli)have a large total surface area which makes the process of diffusion faster.
