The Shoulder and Arm Flashcards
This is the primary joint of the shoulder, located btw the head of the humerus and the glenoid cavity of the scapula. It is extremely mobile and far less stable than the hip.
Glenohumeral joint
8 movements of the scapula
depression, abduction, forward tilt, upward rotation, elevation, adduction, return from forward tilt, downward rotation
orignates on the anterior surface of the scapula and inserts on the lesser tubercle of the humerus. It reinforces the capsule of the glenohumeral joint.
Subscapularis
originates from the supraspinous fosse on the posteior side of the scapula. Its tendon passes under the acromioclavicular joint and inserts on the greater tubercle.
Supraspinatus
Movement and Primary muscles used for motion of the glenohumeral joint:
Abduction

Lattisimus Dorsi
Movement and Primary muscles used for motion of the glenohumeral joint:
Extension
Posterior deltoid
Has two origins. The short head originates at the coracoid process and the long head originates from a tubercule above the glenoid cavity. It inserts on the radial tuberosity and the bicipital aponeurosis of the medial forearm. It is primarily a flexor and supinator of the forearm.
Biceps Brachi
means broadest muscle of the back. it originates from T7 to the sacrum and it inserts on the bicipital ridge of the humerus. by wrapping around the lower trunk it helps preserve structural integrity especially in movements requiring strength. It is one of the primary lifting muscles of the back.
Latissimus Dorsi
Describe the motions of the glenohumeral joint during first por tu dras
Flexion: First position
Adduction: Second position
Abduction: Fifth (low)
