what was the beer hall putsch?

  • in november 1934 hitler and the sa stormed into a crowded beer hall
  • politician von lahr was making a speech in the beer hall
  • hitler shoots a gun at the ceiling and shouts the national revolution has begun
  • hitler forces von kahr and general ludendorff to publicly declare their support for him
  • hitler leaves to deal with another incident and -ludendorff allows people to leave the beerhall
  • hitler leads a march down the streets of munich
  • they are stopped by a police barricade and hitler is shot in the shoulder and 16 nazis are killed
  • hitler is arrested and trailed for treason

how did politicians help hitler become chancellor?

A

hindenburg- he was persuaded to appoint him and he believed he could control hitler
hitler- refused vice chancellor and waited for more senior position, persuaded hindenburg
franz von paper- was a weak chancellor and removed from job, made a deal with hitler to get more power
general von schleicher- persuaded hindenburg to remove papen to get himself job, uses hitler to gain popularity
hitler became chancellor in january 1933

what was the reichstag fire?

A

people cohen a 24 year old dutchman called marius von dee line beside the building with matches and fire lights. he was found guilt so he was beheaded- he was a communist
-happened on 27th february 1933
the reichstag fire law was taking away sights from the weimar public. this meant they could search peoples houses, people without trial and take down newspaper with has real news
the nazis won 288 seats in the election after persuading the public the communists had started the reichstag fire. they could get rid of the communists

A

between 1933 and 1934 hitler removed the last remains of democracy in germany

  • he also got rid of any possible challenges to his authority when he destroyed the power of the SA in the night of the long knives
  • when president hindenburg died, hitler made himself supreme ruler of germany

the enabling act gave hitler the power to make laws without- the approval of either the reichstag or the president

A

on the 30th of june 1934, hitler assassinated hundreds of nazis whom he believed had the potential to become political enemies in the future

  • the sa were specifically targeted
  • he used this as an excuse to kill opponents like von kahr and von schleicher
  • 77 men were executed including ernst rohn
