Q

Identify the two main divisions of the nervous system

A

Central nervous system (CNS) which includes the brain and spinal cord.

Peripheral nervous system (PNS) which consists of the nerves that connect the CNS to the rest of the body.

Q

Name the three main functions of the nervous system

A

Sensory- sensory nerves gather info from inside the body and outside environment. The nerves then carry info to the CNS (central nervous system)

Integrative function- sensory info brought to the CNS is processed and interpreted

Motor function- motor nerves convey info from the CNS to the muscles and the glands of the body.

Q

What is cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)

A

Within the subarachnoid space CSF circulated with forms a little baby cushion around the brain and spinal cord to help prevent injury.

14
Q

What do sensory NEURONS do?

A

Carry messages from a receptor to the brain, the brain then interprets the message.

THEN
Motor NEURONS send message to an affector in either a muscle or glands.

Q

Name some signs and symptoms of nervous system conditions/disorders.

A

Confusion, changes in personality, headache, blurred vision, changes in levels of consciousness, paralysis, hemiplegia, speech and communication problems, dizziness.

16
Q

What is CVA (cerebrovascular accident)

A

A stroke,
Disruption of blood supply to the brain resulting in loss of brain functions. Can be caused by either a clot of haemorrhage

17
Q

What is acquired brain injury? ABI

A

ABI refers of any type of brain damage that occurs after birth. It can include damage sustained by infection, disease, lack of oxygen or a blow to the head.
