why did William order the domesday book 1086 to be made

A
  • help collect taxes and ensure that William got as much money as possible
  • ensure feudal lords were not hiding wealth which could threaten his position
  • record and settle arguments over land after invasion
  • make a record of resources to be prepared fro war eg animals weaponry and food
