The civil justice system is designed to sort out disputes between individuals or organisations. One party (the claimant) sues the other (the defendant) usually for money they claim is owed or for compensation for a harm to their interests.The burden of proof is

The ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ test used by the criminal courts and, for this reason, it is possible to be acquitted of a criminal charge yet still be found to have breached the civil law.
