Has haemoglobin to carry oxygen, no nucleus, disc-shaped, made in the bone marrow

White blood cells
Fight infection, produce antibodies, nucleus present, no definite shape
Platelets
Blood clotting, no nucleus, fragments of cells,
Plasma
90% of water, carries platelets and red and white blood cells, carries dissolved substances (10%) e.g. Glucose, proteins, urea.
Functions of blood
Transport, defence against disease, clotting
Valves
To stop back flow of blood
Cardiac muscle
It doesn’t fatigue or tire
The heart
Is a pump, located slighted to the left hand side of your chest
The average rate of an adult heartbeat
70 beats per minute
Blood to the heart
Arteries bring blood away, veins bring blood to the heart
Why exercise
- Strengthens our lungs
- Strengthens our hearts
- Strengthens our other muscles
- Reduces weight
Heart disease
Small arteries on the way to heart become clogged with fat.
Reduce the risk of heart disease:
- Exercise regularly
- Eat a healthy diet ( less fat and salt )
- Don’t smoke
