The Cell Cycle Flashcards
Cell division
Follows nuclear division
While cell divides
Nuclear division
Nucleus divides
Includes mitosis and meiosis
Requirements of semi conservative replication
Nucleotides
Strange of DNA to act as template for nucleotides
Polymerase to catalyse reaction
Chemical energy to drive process
Process of semi conservative replication
1-DNA helix saw breaks hydrogen bonds separating DNA strands
2-complementary nucleotides attracted to exposed polynucleotide strands (energy activates nucleotides)
3-joined by polymerase resulting in 2 new DNA strands
Stage 1 of the cell cycle
INTERPHASE
1st growth- G1 proteins are synthesised
Synthesis- DNA is replicated
2nd growth - G2 organelles grow + divide + energy stores increase
Stage 2 of the cell cycle
NUCLEAR DIVISION
Where nucleus divides either into 2(mitosis) or 4(meiosis)
Stage 3 of cell cycle
CELL DIVISION
whole cell divides into 2(mitosis) or 4(meiosis)
What happens in INTERPHASE
Cell synthesises proteins
No chromosomes are visible
What happens in PROPHASE
Chromosomes become visible
Nuclear envelope disappears
What happens in METAPHASE
Chromosomes arrange at the centrometer
What happens in ANAPHASE
Chromosomes chromatids migrate to opposite ends of the cell
What happens in TELOPHASE
Nuclear envelope reforms
Spindles disintegrate
