What happened during the Texas State Constitution of 1845?
Texas was annexed to United States of America as the 28th state
They now had to create a State Constitution
What does annexed mean?
Add, Added, Put On, or Make Larger
Annexation?
The act of adding new territory to a state or country, transferring political control to a new political entity.
Compromise?
An agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side giving up something (making concessions)
Republic?
A sovereign or independent country with a form of government in which representatives elected by the citizens hold power.
Individual Rights
The liberty or freedom of each individual to pursue life and goals without interference from other individuals or the government.
Limited Government?
A system where governing powers are restricted or defined by laws and a constitution.
Popular Sovereignty?
The people rule; the principle that the authority of a state and its government is created by the consent of its people, through their representatives.
Revenue
Income, money collected for the state or country.
Republicanism
The people get to choose the leaders that represent them.
Separation of Powers
A constitutional government with three separate branches of government: executive
Checks and Balances
The constitution explains the power each branch has over the other.
