Drew maps of the Gulf of Mexico for other Spanish explorers, and was the first European to see the Texas coast and map it.
Panfilo de Narvaez
Led an expedition for Spain and later died in a hurricane with his survivors being stranded along the Texas coast in 1527.
Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca
Shipwrecked on the Texas coast from Narvaez’s expedition as his treasurer, and was the first European to explore Texas.
Francisco Vasquez de Coronado
Spanish explorer who searched for Quivira and Cibola, the supposed lost cities of gold.
Renee-Robert Cavalier, Sieur de la Salle
French explorer who established Fort St. Louis and claimed the Mississippi Valley for France. He was killed by his own men.

Wanted to build a mission among the Caddo and have the French reopen San Francisco de los Tejas.
