TEST PATHS Flashcards
This pathology involves the arches of the feet that do not flatten out with each step (remaining high & immobile).
Pes Cavus
This chronic bone disorder involves healthy bone being reabsorbed & replaced with fibrous connective tissue that never fully calcifies.
Paget’s Disease
The medical term for the union of bone takes longer than expected.
Delayed Union
This form of arthritis is due to the build-up of uric acid and involves periods of remission & acute relapse common.
Gout
This pathology is a lateral deviation of the big toe preceded by weakening & loss of transverse (metatarsal) arch of foot.
Hallux Valgus
This is a type of postural deviation involves an abnormally increased anterior concavity in the curvature of the lumbar spine as viewed from the side.
Lordosis
This is the most common of the arthritic diseases. It results in the degeneration of articular cartilage & bony portions of a joint and the formation of bone spurs.
Osteoarthritis
This pathology involves the progressive shrinking & thickening of palmar fascia that limits the movement of the fingers (usually ring & middle finger).
Dupuytren’s Contracture
These are cystic swellings of tendon sheaths & joint capsules
filled with viscous fluid (often on wrist, hand, or top of foot).
Ganglion Cysts
Inflammation of the fluid-filled sack that acts as a cushion
between bones.
Bursitis
This chronic, systemic, inflammatory disease involves antibodies being produced in synovial membrane of joint capsule.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
This collection of lower leg injuries can involve stress fractures (small hairline fractures) that can result from “running through the pain”.
Shin Splints
An injury in which a bone splinters along one side, the other side bending.
Greenstick Fracture
An injury caused by the fall on an outstretched hand (in an attempt to brace the fall) that causes the styloid process of the radius to be displaced posteriorly and forced upward or
impacted into the shaft of the radius.
Colle’s Fracture
An injury where the bone breaks and produces an open wound in the skin.
Compound Fracture
