The Plains Indians ate the bison’s meat and drank its milk. They made shoes, roves, and other clothing from its hides. They also used the hides to make their homes (teepees). Bison manure was used for heating and cooking. Bison bones were used to make tools such as needles and knives. Sinews (tendons of the bison) were used as thread. The bison’s horns were used as ceremonial headdresses.
