Test 2 Flashcards
AC and DC definition?
Alternating Current
Direct Current
What is crude oil generation?
Heating oil into a boiler, which creates steam which turns the turbines.
What is capacitive?
The current IS BEHIND the voltage.
What is resistive?
100% in sync. (The waves line up)
The number of times a generator rotates in one second is known as what?
Frequency, and is measured in cycles per seconds = hertz
What is parabolic solar generation?
A solar trough harnesses the heat energy from the sun to heat up salt to a molten state, the salt then passes through a boiler to create steam.
In AC circuits positive and negative means?
The direction of current flow in a conductor.
What is photovoltaic solar generation?
Uses semi conductive panels to produce power in the form of direct current. (Residential solar panels)
What is inductive?
The current is IN FRONT of the voltage?
What are the 5 generation types?
Steam Hydroelectric Wind Distributed generation Combustion engine/ turbine
What is distributed generation?
Smaller scale generation, typically at the point of consumption. (Rooftop solar panels etc)
At what degree is a generator at its maximum peak.
90 degrees.
What is frequency?
The number of times that a generator rotates in one second. Is measured in cycles per second of hertz.
What is Geothermal generation?
Uses natural heat from geysers or hot springs to produce steam.
What is combustion engine generation?
Diesel fuel is used to power an engine, which is used to spin a generator.
