6 Principles of Government

A

1) Popular Sovereignty- government receives its power from people and govern only with their consent.
2) Limited Government- Government is not all powerful and government officials are not “above the law”
3) Separation of Powers- power in government is divided between Legislative, Judicial, and Executive Branches.
4) Checks and Balances- each branch has the built in authority of the other two.
5) Judicial Review- federal courts have the power of reviewing government acts and nullifying any that violate the provisions of constitutions.
6) Federalism- power is divided between a central government and smaller local governments.
