What is TOR?
Terms of Reference - a document that defines the scoped allowed to persons conducting an enquiry of any kind.
What is BOSCARD?
It is the acronym used to describe the Terms of Reference.
What are the components of BOSCARD?
Background, Objectives, Scope, Contraints, Authority, Resources, Deliverables
What are the objectives of TOR?
To enable projects to set clear boundaries, know what is within their autorhity, have an idea where they should begin, have an idea of the desired outcome.
What is the Background and why is it important?
It contains the context to the project, cross references to other projects, and the overall aims. It’s important as the objectives can be validated and allows the project to be put into context.
What are the Objectives?
These objectives are related to the project and need to be SMART.
What is the Scope?
The boundaries of the project. It can be identified and documentd under the business processes under investiation, the IT systems providing support, the locations, and the organisation areas.
What are the Contraints?
There are different examples, Money, Geography, Time, Legal, Tech, etc..
What is the Authority?
The ultimate arbiter in the project, e.g. project sponsor.
What are the Resources?
The people, groups, number, type of equipment available to the project.
What are the Deliverables?
The key outcomes of the projct.
What are some BA deliverables?
Business needs log, HLR, Analysis of as-is, Business Case, etc…
