Iwama
A small town in northeast Tokyo. During WWII, O-Sensei moved to Iwama to foster his training. O-Sensei founded Aikido and the Iwama dojo during this period. From O-Sensei's death until 2002, the Iwama dojo was instructed by Saito Sensei, who was a long time student of O-Sensei. O-Sensei entrusted care of the Aiki Shrine to Saito Sensei. Saito Sensei died on May 13, 2002. We generally practice what is called "Iwama- Style" Aikido, which focuses on basic technique and the integration of Bukiwaza with empty hand techniques.
