Origin: Temporal Fossa
Insertion: Coronoid process + the ramus of mandible
Actions: elevate mandible
Nerve: CN V
Masseter
Origin: Inferior margins of zygomatic bone + zygomatic arch of temporal bone
Insertion: angle, ramus + coronoid process of mandible
Action: Elevate mandible
Nerve : CN V
Lateral Pterygoid
Origin: Sphenoid bone
Insertion: neck of mandible + TMJ Capsule
Actions: Protracts mandible, contralaterally deviates mandible
Nerve: CN V
Medial Pterygoid
Origin: Sphenoid Bone
Insertion: internal surface of angle of the mandible
Actions: Elevate, protract + contralaterally deviate the mandible
Nerve: CN V
Occiptofrontalis ( epicranius)
Origin: Occipital bone + temporal bone
Insertion: fascia + skin overlaying frontal bone
Action: draws the scalp posteriorly (elevate eyebrows)
Nerve: CN VII
Obicularis Oculi
Origin: encircles the eye ( from medial side + returns to medial side)
Actions: closes + squints the eyes
Nerve: CN VII
Obicularis Oris
Origin: Entirely surrounds mouth
Actions: closes mouth, protracts lips
Nerve: CN VII
Zygomaticus Major & Levator Anguli Oris
Origin: Zygomatic bone to the angle of the mouth/ Maxilla to the angle of the mouth
Actions: Elevates angle of the mouth
Levator Labii Superious & Zygomaticus Minor
Origin: Maxilla to upper lip/ Zygomatic bone to upper lip
Action: Elevates upper lip
Depressor Labii Inferioris
Origin: Mandible to the lower lip
Action: Depresses lower lip
Platytsma
Origin: Subcutaneous fascia of superior chest to the mandible + subcutaneous fascia of lower face
Action: Draws up skin of superior chest + neck creating ridges of skin of the….
