Things to Remember

A
  1. don’t insert your opinion: “the author expands on the barbaric quality of the issue” VS “the author expands on the issue, presenting it as barbaric”
  2. vary your sentence lengths, don’t continue the fronted non finite verb clause structure over and over again.
  3. don’t use quotes if you’re not going to fully unpack them. don’t just use quotes to show you can embed multiple in the same sentence.
  4. mention tone as something that effects your audience and is a technique used by the author but must quote evidence of the tone
  5. you can mention form as a separate technique in the same way by inserting it when it is relevant like a visual. why does the form of the text help the author’s point in this section? why use a newspaper? why a digital forum?
  6. is their argument type logic minded/community minded/ emotionally driven? are they actually enshrouding other motivations under a certain argument type
