Technology- Chapter 13 Flashcards
cells
spreadsheets give us an array of these to help us create lists
spreadsheets were invented by
- Dan Brocklin and Bob Frankston in 1978
- there system was called VisiCalc and it ran on Apple II
Cell range
the cells b2:d7
the equal sign acts as the indicator because
it shows that it is a formula and not data
filling
is an automated copying and pasting
fill handle
saves us from explicitly setting each cell in the column or manually using the copy/paste operations
relative cell reference
when the software automatically transforms the formulas as it pastes them or fills them into a cell when you write F2
absolute cell reference
it tells the software never to change the reference when filling or pasting
has a $ sign
functions
spreadsheet software provides this for computing common summary operations such as totals (sum), averages, maximum and many others
functions and column letters
are not case sensitive in spreadsheets
format
font color and cell color
foreign data
data from another application that we want to import into a spreadsheet
tab-delimited text
- spreadsheets prefer to import foreign data as this
- means that each cell entry is delimited (ends with ) a tab in the file
concatenate
which means to join pieces of text together, one after the other
