systems of equations Flashcards
systems of equations-
A set of equations with the same variables
P.O.I-
the point where two or more lines or curves cross, also known as a solution to the system, its meaning depends on what the graphs are describing(stands for point of intersection)
slope m written as a fraction?
ex: 3 as a fraction?
example:
3x = 3/1
3/1 =
3 up
1 right
on the graph, what directions is (positive &negative ) for numerator of m(growth)
positive= up negative= down
on the graph, what directions is (positive &negative ) for denominator of m(growth)
positive= right
negative= left
(you can tell by imagining a graph, if you go to the left, it’s negative, if you go to the right its positive)
how do you find where to put the coordinate points?
- identify y intercept(b) in coordinates from the equation
- plot y intercept coordinate
- identify slope(m) (convert into fraction for directory)
- plot fraction from b’s coord.
if necessary:
identify and label point of intersection(the solution)
4 converted into coordinate
in y intercept(b)
format:
0,4
p.o.i- khan academy/ixl practice problems
what is a solution of the system of equations?
an ordered pair
how many number of solutions is in intercepting lines?
exactly one solution
terminology:
consistant and independent
how many number of solutions is in same lines?
infinitely many solutions
terminology: consistent and dependent
how many number of solutions is in a parallel lines?
no solution
terminology:
inconsistent
