systems Flashcards
musculoskeletal
made up of bones/muscles, supports/protects organs, makes movement possible
connective tissue that make up skeleton (3)
bones ligaments cartilage
nervous system
bodys control system, brain spinal cord nerves
3 groups of nerves in nervous system
- nerves that control voluntary muscles
- nerves that carry info from SENSE ory organs
- nerves that regulate involuntary functions
whats the function or sensory receptors
special cells/tissue that receive input from environment (eyes sensitive to light, skin sensitive to temps)
lymphatic system
vessels that collect fluid from body & returns to blood, fights off infection
endocrine system
glands produce hormones, regulates growth, reproduction, energy production
excretory system
kidney, bladder, filters blood and eliminates waste
reproductive system
male/female parts produce sperm/egg, create offspring
respiratory system
gas exchange, exchange O2 for CO2, tubes leading to lungs
digestive system
-group of organs break down food/absorb nutrients for fuel, eliminates waste
whats the path food takes in digestive system
mouth (breaks down food/enzymes in saliva and teeth) , esophagus, stomach (phys/chem digestion, break down into proteins) , small intestine (absorb nutrients into blood), large intestine (absorbs water/minerals) , rectum anus (temp storage and elimination of waste)
3 accessory organs (digestion)
salivary glands liver pancreas
circulatory system
- heart/blood vessels carry blood/subs around body
- supplies nutrients and eliminates waste from cells
- blood heart blood vessels
4 components of blood
red blood cells
white blood cells
platelets
plasma
