Fertilisation
When the egg and sperm join

The cell formed after fertilisation. This will begin to divide and multiply

Techniques to prevent fertilisation
Chemical contraception
Contain oestrogen and progesterone
The pill
The pill should be taken everyday, at the same time of day, for 3 out of 4 weeks. Side effects can include headaches and migraines, gaining weight and mood swings
Condom
Prevent and block sperm from entering the vagina. It can also prevent STIS from spreading
Sterilisation
Is a permanent contraception technique where the oviduct or the sperm Is cut
Gonorrhoea
Caused by bacteria, if untreated the person may develop problems with their joints and may lead to sterility
Burning sensation when urinating
Discharge
Can lead to sterility is untreated (treatment - antibiotics)
AIDS
Caused by a virus called HIV. The virus infects the blood cells (lymphocytes) and therefore makes your immune system less efficient at dealing with infection
HIV
Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Passed to a new person by :
Sexual intercourse with an infected person
Use of intravenous needles from an infected person
Mixing of blood
Variation
Means that everything is different
Continuous variation
Is when you get a range or a gradual change across the population which can be measured
Discontinuous variation
Can clearly be divided into groups e.g eye colour, the ability to roll tongue
Variation cause
Is caused by two factors: genetics environment
