What are the 2 sections the long bone is divided into and describe them?
Diaphysis- main portion and compact bone
Epiphysis- enlarged ends of bone which contains sponge bone
List other parts of the long bone?
Metaphysis- where diaphysis and epiphysis meet
Periosteum- white and dense material covering outside of bone
nutrient artery- blood vessel that supplies nutrients to long bone
red bone marrow- located in cancellous bone and produces blood cells
articular cartilage- smooth and white tissue that covers ends of bones
yellow bone marrow- fat storage and fills cavity in diaphysis
medullary cavity- hollow part of bone which contains bone marrow
What is lacunae?
small spaces between matrix
what is canalicula
tiny canals running between lacunae that allows materials to be passes through cells
