Stroke Flashcards
Apraxia
unable to execute a voluntary movement
(inability to carry out purposeful skilled movements that does not result from motor, sensory or comprehension impairments)
Ideomotor apraxia
Sub-category of apraxia
unable to carry out instructions successfully when instructed.
-movements clumsy, awkward with poor timing & sequencing
Anterior cerebral artery arises from and supply to
arises from the internal carotid supplies to ( ) that regulates logical thought, personality, and voluntary movement, especially the legs.
Middle cerebral artery arises from and supply to
arises from the internal carotid
supplies the portion of frontal lobe and lateral surface of parietal and temporal lobe.
Also supplies the primary motor cortex and sensory area of the face, throat and arm and hand
Posterior cerebral artery arises from and supply to
arises from the basilar artery supplies to ( )
Cause of Sub-arachnoid Hemorrhage
Trauma, aneurysm
Cause of intra-cerebral Hemorrhage
Hypertension. Less common in trauma,
cause of Thrombotic stroke
Direct occlusion of an artery with in the neck or head usually due to atherosclerosis
cause of Embolic stroke
A occlusion of an artery with in the neck or head due to a clot derived from other parts than the lesion.
reason why CT scan is critical in acute stroke patient?
To differentiate Ischemic stroke from haemorrhagic stroke.
It is to dissolve or break down the clot that causes ischemic stroke with a clot dissolving medication. its pointless to provide medication to haemorrhagic stroke.
