Difference between semi perishable and perishable food
Semi perishable foods can last for a long period of time. Perishable foods aren’t safe to eat unless kept refrigerated.
2 - hour / 4 - hour rule
Food stored between 5°C and 60°C for less than 2 house can be used, sold or put back in refrigerator for later use.
Food stored between 5°C and 60°C for 2-4 hours can still be used or sold, but can’t be put back in the fridge.
Food stored between 5°C and 60°C for 4 hours or more must be thrown away.
Storage temperatures
Pantry : 10-20°C
Fridge : Below 5°C
Freezer : Below -18°C

Fruits, vegetables, meat
Examples of frozen food

Storage conditions of non - perishables
Stored in airtight container in dark cool cupboard.
Storage conditions of semi - perishables
Stored in an airtight container and kept in a cool dark pantry.
Storage conditions of perishables
Food should be wrapped in plastic or stored in a container, in the refridgerator below 5°C.
Storage conditions of frozen food
Keep the food well packaged, under -18°C.
Use by date
A guide to the latest you can consume the food before it is unsafe to eat.
Best before date
An indication on how long before the food lacks nutritional value and sensory properties.
