What are heuristics?
mental shortcuts that allow people to solve problems and make judgements quickly and efficiently.
When are heuristics mainly used?
Wedon’thave much information
We have too much information to analyse
Time is limited
The decision is unimportant
An appropriate heuristic comes to mind
What are some examples of heuristics?
Availability- use information that is easiest tobring to mind
Familiarity- favour familiar things, people or places
Affect- being influenced by your emotions in that moment
Anchoring- being disproportionately influenced by the first information that we learn
Scarcity- less available = more valuable
What is discrimination?
The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of ethnicity, age, sex, or disability
