Sugar Act of 1764
The British needed money from the colonies to pay for war, so they taxed them heavily on sugar and other dry goods. This stopped trade in New England.
Stamp Act of 1765
First tax directly placed on American Colonists. This act required that all paper and pamphlets had to have british seal on them, paid for by taxes.
Declaratory Act of 1766
A law created saying that British had taxing authority over the american colonists.
The Boston Massacre of 1770
Street fights due to the townshend act that resulted in the death of 5 colonists.
Tea Act of 1773
Colonists were taxed on tea and East India tea company was gaining money making local tea sellers lose money.
The Boston Tea Party of 1773
Colonists disguised themselves as Indians and dumped 500,000 pounds of tea into the ocean.
Intolerable Acts of 1774
Britain punished colonists for their tea party by closing the harbor until colonists paid for the lost tea.
